Pianist Profiles
| Sandi Koh began piano studies with Fang Yuan at the age of seven. In 1996, she was accepted into the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Ohio, and was awarded the National Arts Council Overseas Scholarship and Oberlin Merit Scholarship. During her studies with renowned French pianist Monique Duphil as well as Maxim Mogilevsky, she frequently performed in recitals and received awards in pedagogy. |
Upon invitation, Koh enrolled in graduate performance studies at the University of Houston, Texas, as a Hirsch Memorial Scholarship recipient and Moores School of Music Teaching Fellow. She also studied with New York-based pianist Horacio Gutierrez, Nancy Weems, Robert Brownlee and Timothy Hester. Sandi was accepted into the Doctor of Musical Arts degree programme at the University of Houston.
Sandi Koh has performed in summer music festivals in France and Japan, and in 2002 she represented Singapore with a guest performance at the Makizono City Hall in Kagoshima. She was awarded Third Prize in the National Music Competition (Open) in 2001 and 2003 and has performed with the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Singapore and the Singapore Lyric Orchestra.
In 2005, she performed with the talented young violinist Jonathan Ong for the Chamber Music recital presented by the Esplanade and also collaborated with Annalisa Kerrigan, one of Australian's finest sopranos, for a charity concert. She has also performed with SSO violinist Chan Yoong-Han in the Musica da Camera series at the Arts House, as well as in the NAFA Commuter Concert series. Sandi Koh has appeared in masterclasses with celebrated pedagogues such as Li Ming Qiang, Yu Chun Yee, Yevgeny Malinin, Vera Nossina, Jean-Paul Sevilla, among others. She taught at the School of Young Talents (NAFA) till 2007. Sandi Koh now lives in Lausanne, Switzerland with her husband, and studies with Dominique Weber and Gerardo Vila.
