VLADIMIR FELTSMAN

Born in Moscow in 1952, Vladimir Feltsman gave his debut with the Moscow Philharmonic at age 11. In 1969, he studied piano under Jacob Flier at the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory of Music, and also studied conducting at both the Moscow and the Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) Conservatories. In 1971, he won the Grand Prix at the Marguerite Long International Piano Competition in Paris; this was followed by intensive concert tours throughout the former Soviet Union, Europe, and Japan.
A regular guest soloist with leading orchestras in the United States, Feltsman appears on the most prestigious concert series and music festivals worldwide. Highlights of his 2008/09 season include performances with the London Symphony Orchestra and St. Petersburg Philharmonic under Valery Gergiev, L’Orchestre de Paris under Michael Tilson Thomas, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and many U.S. orchestras. His recital appearances include performances at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Chicago, Philadelphia and other U.S. cities.
Feltsman holds the Distinguished Chair of Professor of Piano at the State University of New York, New Paltz, and teaches at the Mannes College of Music in New York City. He is also the Founder and Artistic Director of the International Festival-Institute Piano Summer at New Paltz, a month-long training program for advanced piano students.
Vladimir Feltsman’s extensive discography has been released on the Sony Classical, Music Heritage Society and Camerata Tokyo labels. His discography includes six albums of Bach’s clavier works, recordings of Beethoven’s last five piano sonatas, solo piano works of Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms and Messiaen, as well as concertos by Bach, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Prokofiev.
